Summer may be ending, but we can pretend it’s not with this refreshing Sparkling Blackberry Limeade! Perfect for a Labor Day celebration or just as a refreshing treat to yourself.

What’s in this Sparkling Blackberry Limeade?

Luckily this blackberry limeade is made with 3 staple ingredients:

  • Sparkling water
    • You can also use club soda or anything else that will bring some fizz to your drink
  • Homemade blackberry simple syrup
    • I’ll teach you how to make this below! It’s perfect to keep on hand for so many things
  • Fresh squeezed lime juice

Blackberry Simple Syrup

Blackberry simple syrup is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the traditional simple syrup you make and use in cocktails, just with some blended fresh or frozen blackberries added to it for a delicious flavor!

Steps:

  1. Blend blackberries (you can use fresh or frozen- if frozen, I recommend you thaw them first) in a blender until completely smooth. You will still have seeds that won’t get smushed but you can strain them out later if you prefer
  2. Add 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water to a small sauce pot and cook over medium/low heat until sugar is dissolved
  3. Once sugar is mostly dissolved, add in blended blackberries and bring everything to a light boil
  4. Let mixture boil for about 3 minutes and take off of heat. Set aside and let it cool, then it’s ready to use!

Other uses for blackberry simple syrup

This is obviously great for our Sparkling Blackberry Limeade, but you can use it in other cocktail drinks. I LOVE Moscow Mules and will definitely be adding this to my drink next time. You can also use this to drizzle on your fluffy breakfast pancakes!

How long to keep Blackberry Simple Syrup

I am a bit of a paranoid nut when it comes to food safety so I will always er on the side of caution. Normal simple syrups of 1:1 ratios can last in the fridge for about a month or so. Since this uses fruit, I would only keep this syrup tightly closed in the fridge for about 1-2 weeks.

How to serve

I recommend serving this immediately, as the tart lime flavors really set in over time. I made this and drank it fresh and it was the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. Then I left a pre-made glass in the fridge for a few hours and when I went to drink it, it was 10x more tart and almost undrinkable.

If you do make it ahead of time, I would recommend taste testing it before serving. Add in more water if you find it is too tart!

Ingredients
  

Blackberry Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 cups blackberries , blended

Sparkling Blackberry Limeade

  • 2 cups blackberry syrup
  • cup lime juice
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup sparkling water
  • Ice

Instructions
 

  • Blend blackberries in blender or food processor*
  • In small pot, combine sugar, water, and blended blackberries over medium/low heat until sugar is dissolved, stirring
  • Set aside to cool

Notes

* This is the easiest way to mash the blackberries. If you don’t feel like doing this, you can add the blackberries to the sugar and water mix and mash with a fork or back of wooden spoon when they get soft
